Lakewood Yacht Club (LYC) sailors Carson Shields and Asher Zittrer both placed sixth in their respective classes at the Laser Class U.S. & Singlehanded Sailing Championships held at Tahoe Yacht Club July 19-23, 2017.
The competition was very tight in the Laser class against 42 competitors. Only 19 points separated seventh- from third-place, with Shields ending up in the sixth spot.

The Laser Radial class had 55 competitors with scores being very close, as well. Zittrer finished in 6th place with only eight points separating him from the second-place finisher. Notably, Zittrer won two individual races.

Full results of the race can be found at www.regattanetwork.com.

Shields and Zittrer have been training for years at Lakewood Yacht Club, coming up through the Opti Learn to Sail program and improving their skills over time.

"Sailing Lasers is physically and mentally demanding, and takes many hours of training on the water and in the gym," says LYC Sailing Director Watt Duffy. "Recently, Asher and Carson have been training with The Gulf Coast Youth Sailing Association, which is run here on Galveston Bay, and it prepares sailors for Youth Olympics and International Championships."

Well done Asher and Carson. May the winds continue in your favor as you train for your next championships and the Olympics in 2020.
