Antioch University Launches Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management Degree Online

Antioch University has added a Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management (MANM) degree to its online graduate offerings. Designed for working professionals who are ready for the next step in their career, the 33-credit program can be completed in under two years, and most students can work full time while going to school. There are three entry points; students can start in January, May, or August. The program’s inaugural cohort is scheduled to begin in January 2021.

“We are developing courageous leaders for roles in program management, fund development, organizational administration, and executive leadership.” said Terry Ratcliff, Antioch University Provost for Distance and Extended Education. “Graduates of the program will have the skills necessary to make a lasting difference in the communities they serve.”

The nonprofit sector has grown steadily over the past several decades, employing more than fifteen million individuals—one in ten workers. As the nonprofit sector has grown, so has the increased need for qualified leadership.

“The program assists anyone interested in pursuing or advancing their career in the nonprofit sector, whatever their specific area of interest,” said David Norgard, DMin, Chair of the MA in Nonprofit Management Program. “At Antioch, you join a community of people who want to bring positive change—while also building a career and earning a livable income.”

Antioch’s program focuses on the bigger, important questions. It helps students learn the skills they need to accomplish the little things, but also helps them become clear about their own values and those of their organization. The program looks at the larger and smaller contexts, incorporating theory and practice in a practical way. It prepares professionals for fulfilling careers in a wide range of fields, including such varied interests as animal welfare, health care, education, social services, and social advocacy.

Core courses will provide a comprehensive examination of the essential aspects of the nonprofit organization, including program, development, administration, and governance. Featured core courses include Program Planning and Evaluation; Development and Fundraising; Nonprofit History, Context, Theories, and Trends; and Financial Analysis for NonProfits.

A wide range of elective courses allows students to pursue their particular interests in depth. A sampling of elective courses includes Social Movements and the Work of Advocacy; Public Policy and Advocacy; Developing People and Performance; and Organizational Leadership and Change. Students can also complete an optional capstone project providing the opportunity to integrate learning from throughout the program.
