New Report Format Provides Industry Growth Data Underpinned by Insight from Leading Arizona Technology Executives and Their Companies

The Arizona Technology Council today released its latest quarterly Arizona Technology Industry Impact Report to keep its constituents informed on the progress of Arizona’s technology community and put a face to the industry’s success stories, The new report features video interviews with technology leaders across Arizona’s major technology sectors in addition to the data on the industry’s growth. Q2 highlights can be found in the Council’s Impact Report infographic here.

“I am thrilled to share with you this new version of our quarterly Arizona Technology Industry Impact Report,” said Steven G. Zylstra, president and CEO of the Council. “In partnership with Castelazo Content, we’ve added an additional layer to the data dashboard: stories of the people behind the numbers. These are the employers and employees, the innovators and investors — the people — who make the technology industry in our state flourish.”

Significant data points in the latest report include 198,821 technology jobs in Arizona (up 0.9% over Q1), a rise in technology wages to $21.75 billion (up 4.08% over Q1) and a technology jobs multiplier of 2.52, meaning 252 new jobs were created in other industries for every 100 technology positions added.

Additional findings of the Q2 2020 report include:

  • Technology job growth reached 3.09% in the past year.
  • Arizona hosts 9,563 technology companies.
  • $863 million in venture capital was invested in Arizona companies in 2019.
  • 33% of Arizona technology jobs were held by women.
  • The report also highlighted the top five Arizona technology industry sectors by employment:
  1. Computer systems design & related services
  2. Aerospace product & parts manufacturing
  3. Semiconductor & other electronic component manufacturing
  4. Telecommunications
  5. Data processing, hosting & related services

Underpinning this data are multiple video interviews with Arizona technology industry leaders from a wide spectrum including edtech, fintech, software, space, and the entrepreneurial and investment ecosystems. Each leader was asked to share stories regarding personal and company growth, as well as the impact the Arizona technology support system has had on his or her business. Insight, analysis and advice from the interviews are featured in the Q2 report.

  • Greg Scoresby, founder and CEO, CampusLogic
  • Jason Yankovitz, area operations manager, Salute Mission Critical

During his interview, Scoresby described one of the key benefits of Arizona’s technology community – the people. “I like the people here and I like the local tech community in particular,” said Scoresby. “One of the words that’s been used to describe the community is generous, and I think that’s true. There’s a real spirit of generosity and camaraderie. People that come from other places are surprised how open and accessible other people and companies are. I love that aspect.”

On the Council’s behalf, the quarterly report is compiled by eImpact, an organization that creates web-based, data-reporting solutions designed to help cities, industries and planners drive effective policy, create new growth and engage stakeholders. The report is based on eImpact’s analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, CompTIA, AngelList and others. Molly Castelazo, CEO and chief content strategist of Castelazo Content, has also partnered with the Arizona Technology Council to organize and develop the executive interviews, in addition to updating the report design and creating infographics.
