Mentorship program to give away 500 bookbags with supplies and sanitization items

Back to school season looks very different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some students are learning virtually while some districts have chosen to move forward with in-person lessons. The DEFY program wants to all students are prepared for a safe, healthy and prosperous school year.

The Southfield-based mentorship program will host a bookbag drive on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 12-6 p.m. at Carlyle Stewart Park (12701 14th St., Detroit, MI). Their goal is to provide 500 students with quality backpacks filled with top notch school supplies and sanitation equipment!

The event will include a live DJ, food, laser tag, gaming truck and much more. Parents and students will also be able to enjoy raffles and visit vendors. Youth entrepreneurs are HIGHLY encouraged to sign up as event vendors at no charge! Vendors can seek more information by emailing info@defyprogram.org.
