Step-sisters Tonia Boyd and Dawn Fowlkes noticed a dangerous trend in branding; minority, women-led small businesses in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle were largely underrepresented and underserved by mainstream branding firms. Boyd decided it was time to make a difference in this arena, and this was the beginning of October Moon Branding.

“I started this business because I wish something like this would have existed when I started my first business a decade ago,” said Boyd, also known as Tona Michelle, Founder/CEO/Creative Director. “When I’d search for branding and marketing agencies, they looked so intimidating, stuffy, and conservative. I didn’t see myself in them, and the websites looked and sounded so confusing. This was probably their angle to attract a certain clientele.”

Fowlkes joins October Moon Branding as Head Designer/Partner. “You are your biggest advocate, and your voice deserves to be heard,” said Fowlkes.
