Local REALTORS® Teach at Elementary School for the Day

On October 19th, over 40 REALTORS® participated in the 3rd Annual REALTORS® in the Classroom event put on by Nevada Council of Residential Specialists (CRS) and Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada. They spent the day with kindergarten through 5th grade students at Dr. C. Owen Roundy Elementary School. Students were not only exposed to volunteers from the community, but a unique group of entrepreneurs who shared their experiences with them.
Each volunteer is given five lesson plans to prepare for their class, which includes key terms, talking points, and hands-on activities to help reinforce what they learned in the lesson. Students always look forward to “JA in a Day” and enjoy the day of hands-on learning each year.
Shawn Cunningham of Cunningham Group at RE/MAX Advantage and Network Chair of Nevada CRS organized the event and helped get 40+ REALTORS® signed up for the event for a second year in a row. Shawn’s efforts in last year’s event were recently recognized by Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada with the Volunteer of the Year award.
“I look forward to my days spent with the kids, it’s fun, and challenging to teach kids topics like finance, jobs, how cities work, and money. There’s even a little economics in the 5th grade classes. Many of these children don’t have a lot of exposure to entrepreneurs or small business owners, and encouraging my fellow REALTORS® to join me is a way of giving them a different perspective. Junior Achievement does a great job putting together great curricula for various grades.”
