“Picture this scene: an eclectic but brilliant billionaire comes up with the idea to create a fully-electric car. He then starts a company whose purpose is to service the International Space Station. New York-based entrepreneur and tech enthusiast Michael Tornabe made these remarks as he began an address at a recent meeting hosted for stakeholders in the state’s transportation industry, to discuss revolutionary technologies that will shape the future of the transportation industry.
“Believe me, that’s exactly what Tesla Motors founder, Elon Musk did in real life. The founder of PayPal and Space X has now moved his attention to public transport, and we’re all extremely eager to see what his brilliant mind will churn out next,” continued Mr. Michael Tornabe.
Describing Mr. Musk’s recently unveiled idea, Mr. Tornabe invited his audience to picture the possibility of a hyper-fast transportation system connecting the biggest cities in the USA. “You could get from Los Angeles to San Francisco in as little as 35 minutes with this system, which he calls the Hyperloop.”
He further expounded on the technology as an elevated steel tube into which aluminum capsules are fitted. These capsules are capable of travelling at speeds as high as 760 mph (1,200 kph) and are big enough to hold cars, not just people. “Oh, and the other amazing fact? All this will be fully powered using solar energy!”
For a technology that seems to have unthinkable benefits, the only drawback is its prohibitive price. Musk’s estimation is that it would take a whopping $70 billion just to set the ball rolling, with the expenditure going as high as $100 billion by the end.
“Naturally, Hyperloop has its critics who claim that it’s too slow, too impractical and too expensive. That hasn’t stopped the mogul from pushing forward. “Whether or not the project will be feasible is something only time will tell,” he said in conclusion, “but one thing is certain: if it does work, we’re looking at the end of transportation as we know it!”
