Nicky’s Gardens of Hope Joins The Amazon Smiles Program Just In Time for Giving Tuesday

Industry: Non Profit & Charity

Giving Tuesday and Amazon Smiles are a great way to do some good for the Holidays!

New York City, New York (PRUnderground) December 1st, 2020

Black Friday is now over. Cyber Monday is just ending. And now, America is headed straight for the biggest shopping season of the year. But in between these shopping extravaganzas is Giving Tuesday, a special day set aside to pause and think about all of the needy individuals that you can help during the holidays. This year, an especially good way to make use of Giving Tuesday is to sign up for Amazon Smile. Donors who sign up for Amazon Smile automatically donate 0.5% of the value of what they buy (excluding shipping and taxes) to the charity of their choice. Adriana Piltz, CEO, and Founder of Nicky’s Gardens of Hope is urging everyone who can to sign up with Amazon Smile. “It’s a truly great way of doing good, and If you can make Nicky’s Gardens of Hope your charity on Amazon Smile, it will help us to build homes for 50 Autistic and Intellectually Disabled adults.”

Giving Tuesday got started in 2011 when the Mary-Archie Theater Company in Chicago producing director (Carlo Lorenzo Garcia) first urged readers of the Huffington Post to do a bit of mindful shopping. Carlo asked readers to consider donating to charity after they finished their Cyber Monday shopping. His idea for a “Cyber Giving Monday” quickly evolved into “Giving Tuesday”. A very 21st-century response to consumerism.

A great way to kick-off Giving Tuesday, without costing you anything, is to join Amazon Smile. Once you join, Amazon donates a portion of every purchase to the charity of your choice. Nicky’s Gardens of Hope, a not-for-profit that is building homes in New York’s Hudson Valley, just joined the Amazon Smiles program. Now you can make Nicky’s Gardens of Hope your charity on Amazon Smiles. According to CEO Adriana Piltz, “Look, these days everyone uses Amazon. Since COVID-19 I’ve been buying more and more things online instead of in stores. And so has everyone else. I was raised in Slovakia, and we had nothing like the on-line shopping we all do today. My friends and family are now all using Amazon Smiles. You can be a consumer… AND you can also do some good. It’s like a gift in the skies, buy for yourself and do good for others. Besides, it’s free. What do you have to lose?”

Back in the 20th Century consumerism spawned holiday classics like “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas”. Back then, they tried to make you aware that being too material can be a bad thing. Now that we are in the 21st Century, and we have Black Fridays, pre-Black Friday sales, and  Cyber Mondays, it may be a little too late to stop consumerism, but it may be just the right time to make consumerism pay for a better world.  So, on December 1st, remember Giving Tuesday, and remember Nicky’s Gardens of Hope and donoate on this link… AmazonSmile: You shop. Amazon gives.
