Autonomous Vehicle LIDAR Start Up to Join GM Cruise Automation Unit
Pasadena, CA (PRUnderground) October 11th, 2017
General Motors announced the acquisition of Strobe, an OEwaves spinoff company and an innovator of self-driving car LIDAR technologies, to accelerate GM’s effort in autonomous vehicle development.
Based on the high quality factor (Q) Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) micro-optical resonator technology, Strobe’s automotive LIDAR demonstrated highly linear frequency modulation and narrow linewidth critical for enhanced sensing performance and the technology is capable of chip-scale integration and lower cost required for volume deployment.
“OEwaves is very proud of the role we played in the development of LIDAR technology. The development of our various WGM technologies continues to pave the way for future innovative products” said Debra Coler, Executive Vice President and Interim CEO of OEwaves.
Among other OEwaves proprietary technologies and products, they include WGM-based ultra-low phase noise micro-opto-electronic oscillators (OEO)& ultra-narrow linewidth laser sources, high-Q microwave-photonic filters and comb generators, and microwave and laser phase/frequency noise and linewidth measurement systems.
