Students in O’Leary’s Team Green Light Comedy Stand Up Writing Workshop have spent eight weeks honing and refining their comedic skills and are ready to take them to the big stage.  O’Leary, a Connecticut-based, award-winning comedienne and comedy teacher, hosts the performance.

O’Leary’s new crop of Team Green Light comedians include: Billy Connors, Barrett DeYoung, Judy Eckert, Gregg Feldman, Eileen Fickes, Angel Fredericks, Dimitri Giatrakis, Renee Hewitt, Laura Isler, Jane Knox, Steve Kopp, Keenan Koss, Rob Luchenta, Michael Mast, Barbara Miller, Nichola O’Donnell, Mat Orefice, Kyle Palmer, Maureen Remitz, , Tony Sanches, Vicki Sanches, Abby Tolland, Raafat Toss, Ben Wallace, Adam Wallach, Dinah Walsh and Joe Wilson.

Comedy is Everywhere
Every four months, O’Leary takes a new crop of 15 aspiring comics under her wing as part of the Team Green Light Comedy Writing Workshop. She encourages every student to write a minimum of fifteen minutes every day and those comedic bits are juried to the class and become part of their five-minute showcase comedy routine.

“I’ve watched my Stand-up Comedy students evolve and transform their lives each week. They’ve persevered, ran their bits and now gained the confidence to get up on the big stage and make the audience laugh,” she says. “And just by signing up for my class, I remind them that they’ve done something that many people don’t have the guts to do – step up to stand-up. And the best part is that it’s cheaper than therapy.”

O’Leary’s gospel of comedy is based on her motto, “comedy is the way to tell the truth, comedy is the way to solve a problem and everybody wins.” She instills to her students the importance of reflecting on how they see the world and how the world see’s them.

“Every interaction causes people to make assumptions about us, based only on what they see and their thoughts, biases, interests, distractions, stereotypes baggage or history.”

O’Leary says doing stand-up gives a comic tremendous power to give people leads on what to think about them based on who they are.

But her greatest reward from teaching comedy is the feedback she receives from students.

“My comedy students come from all walks of life, and each has their unique brand and style of humor,” she says.  “Students tell me that comedy class is helping them have more fun in their marriage or finding the humor in a hard day at work, and they know that all the truth is stand-up material.”

O’Leary says everything in her student’s life is comedic material.

“When you’re in a stand-up class with me, anything is fair game – including the group process of ripping and reading ideas and experiences from their week. The showcase has something for everyone, and I encourage comedy fans to come out and support my new entertaining uproarious group of comics. I guarantee you’ll have a long belly laugh the entire show.”
