The Society for Information Management and Business Relationship Management Institute announce a strategic alliance working to solve the business-IT alignment challenge.

Atlanta, GA (PRUnderground) September 28th, 2017

The Society for Information Management (SIM), the most respected society of information technology (IT) leaders, and Business Relationship Management Institute, Inc. (BRM Institute), the world’s foremost authority in strategic business partnering and business value assurance through a business relationship management (BRM) capability, announced a strategic alliance to provide education and support to technology leaders working to solve the business-IT alignment challenge. This alliance further confirms the collaborative nature of the BRM capability and its ability to position IT teams as converged strategic partners with shared ownership for business strategy and business results.

IT has moved from its past position of business support to the forefront of commerce in today’s technological society. IT professor and lead researcher of a recent SIM study Leon Kappelman, Ph.D., concludes that, “CIOs are spending significantly more time with customers and suppliers of the business and meeting more frequently with their C-suite peers. This points to CIOs and IT being more strategic, as well as to the digital transformation of the entire supply chain, not just the organization itself.” In the midst of such a drastic transition, IT assumes shared ownership of both business strategy and business value across the enterprise.

Through this strategic alliance, CIOs will learn how to solve the top challenge cited from SIM’s 2017 IT Trends Study, which surveyed 801 prominent organizations. The chief concern was business-IT alignment, which was described to be the largest organizational and personally worrisome issue in today’s marketplace. A BRM capability can strengthen business-IT collaboration and assist in driving a culture of creativity, innovation, and shared ownership across the enterprise. This transformation results in an increase in holistic and innovative strategies created to deliver their intended business value results.

Of the power of the BRM capability, BRM Institute CEO Aaron Barnes states, “A BRM capability is designed to stimulate, surface, and shape business demand across all functions (sales, marketing, technology, HR, finance, etc.) and ensure that the potential business value from that demand is captured, optimized, and recognized. A strong BRM capability converges cross-functional teams and eliminates value-depleting organizational silos. We are excited to build this alliance with SIM to further the success of technology leaders.”

Through a BRM capability’s approach to converging business, IT, and other functions, a path exists to solve the issue of business-IT misalignment. The foundation is set for a successful alliance that addresses the top concern of IT executives.
