Traverse Bay Farms Apple Barbecue Sauce places in the top 13% of all entries in the American Royal Sauce Competition. It is during this competition that barbecue teams from all over the globe compete for the title of Open and Invitational Grand Champion. In addition this international competition, the American Royal also hosts other barbecue related events including barbecue sauce competitions.
According to Andy LaPointe, Director of Marketing with Traverse Bay Farms, “Competing in the American Royal BBQ sauce competition was an honor. This single competition had 450 entries just competing in the barbecue sauce competition. It is very tough competition.”
Mr. LaPointe continued, “Each commercial entry is judged by a blind tasting of the product on unseasoned barbecue meat. The year we competed have over 450 contestants and we took 53rd place., which means finished in the top 13% per contestants with an overall score of 170.2638. The first place winner had a top combined score of 179.44, while the 450th place winner had a 116.5716. This means it was done to the minutiae’s of detail on appearance, taste and more.”
