Actor, Recording Artist, And Musician Leonard Dozier Announces Opening Of Apostle Of Freedom One-Man Stage Play At Philadelphia’s New Faith & Liberty Discovery Center On May 1

Industry: Entertainment & Games

Philadelphia, PA (PRUnderground) April 26th, 2021

Actor, recording artist, and musician Leonard Dozier is announcing the opening of Apostle of Freedom, a one-man stage play about Richard Allen, at the Faith & Liberty Discovery Center Grand Opening on May 1.

Dozier, producer and star of Apostle of Freedom, which he wrote in 2018, says the production portrays brutal treatment of 18th century African-Americans during the Yellow Fever epidemic that killed 5,000 Philadelphians in three months. Allen was stricken with the virus but survived, and continued on in his career of faith and service, ultimately founding the AME Church. The AME denomination Allen founded is two million people strong globally today.

Dozier is committed to raising awareness about Richard Allen and his legacy, and he wants to show that the struggle continues for African-Americans. “Long before today, when we’re experiencing the double jeopardy of social injustice and COVID-19, this all took place before,” he says, “in 1793 with Yellow Fever and the social injustices of that time.”

This is not Dozier’s first time playing the legendary Allen. He portrayed Allen for ten years, including starring a production on Allen at Mother Bethel and in the first landmark film about his life, produced by Mother Bethel and History Making Productions. “The spirit, mission, and programming of The Faith & Liberty Discovery Center – the most technologically-advanced museum in the world – highlights Allen and others who combined their passions for freedom and faith,” he says.

Dozier has also portrayed Allen on television, in The Philadelphia Experiment’s episode entitled, “Fever 1793.” That program, by History Making Productions based in Philadelphia, won an Emmy. Dozier has also portrayed the icon in various appearances and short performances over the years. A representative from The Faith & Liberty Discovery Center’s umbrella company, The American Bible Society saw Apostle of Freedom and invited Dozier into discussions ultimately leading to this collaboration.

Dozier’s multi-faceted career includes being among the primary voices for NFL Films, and he can be heard on the Super Bowl Recap for each of the last five Super Bowls: 51, 52, 53, 54, and 55 for “NFL Films Presents.” For 20 years he has been the voice of iconic organizations including the NBA and NASCAR. His recent single, “Sheltered In With You” reached #98 on the smooth jazz charts.
