New full-service, online bookstore gives students convenient access to low-cost course materials

Norwalk, CT (PRUnderground) October 6th, 2020

Akademos today announced that it has been selected by American Public University System (APUS), a provider of high-quality, accessible online programs catering to the nation’s military and public service communities, to operate its online bookstore.

APUS recently introduced a new book grant for master’s-level servicemembers, National Guard members and Reservists which provides course materials at no cost, a program long available to its undergraduate students. Akademos’ comprehensive, full-service platform will enable the university to automate the ordering process for a wide selection of no-cost textbooks and other course materials for all eligible students, according to Andrea Dunn, associate vice president for course materials at APUS.

“Our core mission is to provide an affordable, accessible education to adult learners by minimizing their out-of-pocket costs,” said Dunn. “With this new partnership, our students ineligible for book grants can more easily access course material lists and choose from a variety of textbook formats and purchase and rental options, right from our student portal.”

The bookstore access will begin with students registered in graduate courses that require hard copy textbooks and will expand later.

“We are proud to support an innovative, global service, and leadership-focused institution with an equally progressive, future-proof strategy for textbooks and course materials,” said Akademos CEO Raj Kaji. “The flexibility of our system will give students one of the most convenient, cost-effective options available and provide faculty and administration with the visibility and data to help ensure course materials support student success.”

Akademos works directly with all major education publishers to make multiple formats, delivery options, and cost-saving, subscription-based materials available to APUS students. By integrating with the university’s back-end systems, the personalized bookstore enables students ineligible for book grants to do one-stop shopping and save up to 30 to 35% compared to traditional brick-and-mortar providers.
