Alpenglow Expeditions Reopens Guided Climbing and Backcountry Skiing in the Tahoe National Forest

Company Resumes Limited, Private, Guided Services as the First Stage of a Larger, Responsible, Reopening Plan Developed with the U.S. Forest Service

Alpenglow Expeditions, one of the leading mountain guide companies in the country, announced today the reopening of guided rock climbing, mountain climbing, and backcountry skiing expeditions in the Tahoe National Forest.
The comprehensive reopening plan, which was developed in partnership with the U. S. Forest Service, complies with local and state guidelines, and includes the guiding of small private groups, using social distancing measures, and other significant health safety modifications.
After more than two months of being effectively shut-down because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alpenglow Expeditions is one of the first businesses in the Tahoe area to reopen.
“We’re excited and thrilled to be able to get out there again, doing what we do best,” said Alpenglow Expedition’s founder and CEO, Adrian Ballinger. “And since safety has always been our top priority, we’ve established a set of COVID-19 modifications especially designed to ensure everyone has a safe and healthy outdoor adventure experience.”
The new health measures include staggered check-in, mandatory use of gloves and facemasks, an expedition group limit of four guests per-guide, social distancing protocols, and on-location handwashing stations and hand sanitizer bottles. In addition, all guests, guides, and staff will have to pass a mandatory health screening test before embarking on any adventure. Guests who do not pass the health screening will be given a full credit towards a future expedition. Alpenglow guides and staff who don’t pass will not be able to resume working until given medical clearance.
Adventurers should also note that various local shelter-in-place orders are in effect nationwide, so they should check on any travel restrictions before planning a skiing or climbing expedition.

Another popular Tahoe-area guided adventure, Alpengow’s Tahoe Via Ferrata, is still closed for operation, but the company is working on reopening it soon.
The company is also quick to note that rock and ski guiding operations on the Eldorado National Forest and Inyo National Forest are currently on hold and will be restarted soon. Also, all of Alpenglow’s international operations remain currently suspended, with plans to resume international expeditions sometime in September 2020 – as health and travel conditions allow.
