Zone00, an American rapper based in Los Angeles, California who has been featured in everything from Hip Hop Weekly and The Source, to Hype Magazine, this week released a heart-wrenching new single about America’s heightened racial tensions today.

Called “Say They Names” in reference to the thousands of black Americans killed at the hands of police brutality today, Zone00 wanted to shed light on the systemic racism that has plagued black people since the early days of slavery in America.

“These BLM protests are about more than police brutality – it’s about shedding light on the uncomfortable fact that black people are still enslaved in America today,” said Zone00. “It continues to diminish our value of life, and makes us scared that our children aren’t going to come home from school one day.”

Say They Names includes the following lyrics in the first verse, in reference to George Floyd: Over 16 times he pleaded, but it was useless, others make excuses, noose around nuisance.

Zone00 stated that after seeing the senseless killings of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor, he felt he needed to do something that moved millions. He began to write.

“I chose the name Say They Names for this single because too often we talk about death of people we don’t know by not acknowledging their names – it’s easier that way,” said Zone00. “However, that dehumanizes the brutality and makes it easier for everyone to ‘stomach the reality.’ We no longer can tolerate this kind of injustice, which is why it’s time for everyone to say their names.”

Zone00 ended on a positive note, stating that we are all in this together, having seen every race and ethnicity at the BLM protests. He knows that there are millions who are fighting to create a better future for black lives. For us to keep progressing, Zone00 concluded by saying that we need to first recognize there is a problem, and then next say their names.

To date, Zone00 has released several albums and singles, notably Cuddy Buddy, King of All Kings EP, and the Legend You Never Knew LP. He has been featured in major magazines, and his music is currently distributed by Distrokid. His music can be found on Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Google Play, Amazon, Deezer, and iHeart Radio.
