Quarterly Awards Recognize Students, Alumni, Staff, and Faculty that Best Embody the University’s Mission and Values

American Sentinel University today named the recipients of the 2017 American Sentinel Recognition Program Awards presented quarterly to students, alumni, faculty, and staff that best embody the university’s mission and values in their everyday lives.

The recognition awards program acknowledges individuals for their valuable contributions and extraordinary achievements that serve the university’s mission to enable its students to enhance their professional and civic lives.

“The people of American Sentinel University are the University’s most valuable asset and make significant contributions to our success. We are proud to honor those individuals that best reflect the core values that are crucial to success in education, work, and life,” says Mary Adams, President and Chief Academic Officer at American Sentinel University. “We are honored to name the recipients of this quarter’s recognition program and acknowledge the vital role they play to support academic excellence and innovation.”

The winners of this quarter’s American Sentinel Recognition Program include:

Carol Proctor, an MSN student at American Sentinel University, is the recipient of The American Sentinel Student Recognition Program. Proctor was recognized for the unwavering support she provides to fellow students. Proctor sets the bar high for herself in her coursework, but never leaves her classmates behind. She takes the time to answer questions in the MSN Lounge with thoughtfully written posts to assist fellow students.

Igor Lituta, Technical Support Coordinator, at American Sentinel University, is the recipient of The American Sentinel Staff Recognition Program acknowledging his dedication to the university by providing tech support for staff and faculty, and his humble patience and eagerness to assist co-workers with computer-related issues. Lituta’s colleagues praise his thoughtfulness, humor, willingness to volunteer and help with any project, and desire for going above and beyond expectations. All of this made Lituta an overwhelming choice for the American Sentinel Staff Recognition program.

Proctor and Lituta each receive a letter, certificate, and a $50 gift certificate to the American Sentinel University Store.

Ana Fernandez, Assistant Professor, DNP, RN, CNE at American Sentinel was named a co-recipient of this quarter’s American Sentinel Faculty of the Year Award. Fernandez was recognized for her teaching excellence and ability to inspire students in the classroom. Fernandez received praise for her ability to respond to student’s discussion questions, grade assignments quickly and fairly with a high level of feedback, and her dedication to encouraging students to achieve in their coursework. Fernandez’s attributes embody the high level of academic excellence at American Sentinel.

Dan Randall, Adjunct Professor, MS, BS at American Sentinel University was named a co-recipient of this quarter’s American Sentinel Faculty of the Year Award. Randall was recognized for his high level of commitment and patience to students by providing detailed video explanations for assignment grades. Randall’s encouragement of open discussion and inquiry and his dedication to broadening the student learning experience embody excellence in teaching at American Sentinel.

Fernandez and Randall each receive a letter, certificate, and a $50 gift certificate to the American Sentinel University Store and are candidates for Faculty of the Year award to be recognized at the University commencement ceremonies in June 2018.

In June 2016, the Higher Education Commission Board of Trustees voted to grant American Sentinel University the status of candidate for accreditation. Institutions seeking accreditation by HLC are required to complete a period of candidacy before being evaluated for full accreditation. To earn and maintain candidacy, American Sentinel must fully meet the Commission’s Eligibility Requirements and Assumed Practices and demonstrate the capacity to meet all the Criteria for Accreditation within the candidacy period.

Please note, the MBA Healthcare Project-Based program is pending review for inclusion in the university’s programs covered by the Higher Learning Commission designation of candidate for accreditation.
