Andrew Roby Events started in Washington, DC but is expanding into other major cities, thanks to events like a high-profile luxury fashion boutique launch in LA with celebrity guests.

Andrew Roby Events is a black-owned event planning company that got its start in Washington, DC in 2016. Now, the company has moved beyond the nation’s capital to design prominent events in Los Angeles and Dallas. This includes an LA launch party for an up-and-coming luxury boutique fashion house. The event welcomed Hollywood celebrities to a candy shop setting inspired by “Harlem Nights.”
The fashion house specializes in evening wear, suiting, and outerwear. All of its latest clothing was on display at the launch event, which turned the venue into a candy shop-themed speakeasy. Roby’s design was themed on the movie “Harlem Nights.” The 1989 movie featured Richard Pryor as “Sugar” Ray, whose candy shop doubled as an after-hours nightclub.
“We love the mystique and nostalgia of ‘Sugar’ Ray’s Sweet Shop,” said Roby. “It made the perfect motif for the launch. Guests felt like they were a part of something previously undiscovered or even forbidden. We wanted them to experience being part of that rarefied, in-the-know group, just like those who frequented the Sweet Shop in ‘Harlem Nights.'”
The guest list featured the boutique’s elite clients. They were greeted at the “Sweet Shop” entrance by live piano music and a high-end nightclub setting featuring models posing as mannequins, then strutting their stuff in the boutique’s newest clothing line. There were heavy hors d’oeuvres, flowing champagne, 3-D photo booths, and a string trio on the sprawling patio. The evening was capped off by a grand ribbon-cutting ceremony inaugurating the boutique’s newest releases.
