Industry: Education

Free LIVE Online STEM and Arts Courses Will Be Available for Public School Students Starting April 20, 2020

Atlanta, GA (PRUnderground) April 21st, 2020

Artportunity Knocks, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing high-quality STEM and arts education classes and camps for students in grades K-12, announces its first online learning academy for students who are homebound due to COVID19. Launching limited beta version to select schools on April 20, students will receive free live classes taught by artists and certified teachers on topics including drama, visual arts, dance, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). As an initiative to prevent students’ learning loss while schools are closed due to COVID-19, Artportunity Knocks will open online courses to the general public in June 2020.

“We are proud to offer our new creative online learning during this very difficult time,” said Ty Woods, CEO of Artportunity Knocks. Woods continued to say, “Our mission is to engage students in a fun and creative way, while giving them an opportunity to learn and create with new online friends in a safe space.” Artportunity Knocks’ online learning academy will be available to students nationwide in mid 2020. Tutoring will also be available for students during the school year in an effort to decrease the learning gap.

For more than a decade, Artportunity Knocks, has done more than just provide access to highquality Arts Education to underserved students, but they have made it their life’s work to advocate for the integration of Arts in the Common Core and states performance standards. “We all have used Arts Integration to learn. Think about when you first learned the ABC’s. It was through a song and it was a fun song! Artportunity Knocks will continue to be the catalyst for creativity, innovation and technology (C.I.T). By incorporating C.I.T in the classroom, not only will students love coming to school, but teachers will have fun teaching again,” says Woods.

Over the past 20 years, Woods has become a thought leader in the areas of Arts Education and STEAM Integration and is a sought after conference speaker. She spends a significant amount of her time focusing on research-based approaches to Professional Development, and methods on how to close the academic achievement gap. She has received awards for her work in youth advocacy, nonprofit development and innovation in education.
