Baldor Specialty Foods to Provide Special Thanksgiving Meals to its Hunts Point, Bronx Neighbors

Industry: Food & Drink

The Company Plans to Distribute Nutritionally Complete Thanksgiving Dinners to Underserved South Bronx Community Families on Saturday, November 23

Bronx, NY (PRUnderground) November 20th, 2019

Once again this year, Baldor Specialty Foods, one of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic’s largest specialty food distributors, will work in cooperation with Bronx Community Board #2, The Point (thepoint.org), and the 41st Police Precinct, to host what’s become an annual community food sharing event on Saturday,  November 23, 2019.

Thanks to Baldor’s special meal donation event, Thanksgiving dinner will be a little brighter for hundreds of Hunts Point families. The company, known for its fresh produce and specialty food items, worked with several of its food vendor partners to put together a complete Thanksgiving-in-a-Box. Each box is filled with a nutritious holiday meal, with all the fixings for a family of four. The boxes contain a turkey, stuffing, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, milk, juice, and a dessert. The meal boxes were packed by Baldor employee volunteers and will feed 2,600 people.

TJ Murphy, the CEO of Baldor, confirms the food drive has been a community effort. Global Green Team, Red Jacket, Nature’s Way, Bounty Fresh Group, Branch, Bolthouse Farms, Phillips Gourmet Mushrooms, Tom Cat Bakery, Mann’s, The Point, Ocean Mist Farms, Race-West, Tanimura & Antle, Queen Victoria, Sunkist, Satur Farms, Hudson River Fruit, Dot Foods, Swaz Potato Farms, Clover Farms, Cutone Specialty Foods, Bell Containers, and US Fresh have all contributed items to make up the meal giveaways.

“Thanksgiving is all about the joy of sharing food with family and friends, and that’s exactly what this event is all about,” said Murphy. “We consider our neighbors here in Hunts Point part of the Baldor family, and we are honored to share this bounty of food with them.”

The event will be held at the headquarters of The Point Community Development Center, 940 Garrison Ave, in Hunts Point, The Bronx. The Point is a non-profit organization dedicated to youth development and the cultural and economic revitalization of the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx.

Hunts Point is an underserved South Bronx community where 50 percent of the residents live below the poverty line and many of the remainder barely above that.  It’s also home to Baldor’s corporate headquarters and warehouse facility which is the hub of Baldor’s distribution network.
