The former Bishops palace was built in 1714, belonging to the Wynne-Bankes family for several generations it was recently purchased by Manchester based group Elle R Leisure and has since undergone a major sympathetic renovation.
Retaining its character and individuality was of utmost importance in renovating the listed building. Indeed, William John Bankes (the intrepid 19th century explorer and collector) implemented several renovations to the hall (inspired by his travels to the Middle-East). Interestingly these changes were drawn up by Sir Charles Barry, architect of the British Houses of Parliament.
