Chicago Blogger Kristal Leon and Daughter Raise Money for Local Community By Reading Children’s Books

Industry: Non Profit & Charity

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, mother-daughter duo set out to help community and kids everywhere

Chicago, IL (PRUnderground) March 7th, 2021

Kristal Leon and her daughter decided to give back during the coronavirus pandemic, and they’ve done just that by raising money for Lurie Children’s Hospital (Chicago), the USO, and their local animal shelter by performing book reviews for children’s authors and reading aloud to children via Leon’s blog and Instagram page.

Leon is the creator of A Sailors Wife, a blog created to help military families and non-military families alike navigate unique situations such as deployment. As a military wife and mom, this is a passion that has grown through genuine dedication. When COVID-19 struck, Leon and her daughter decided to use their blog platform and Leon’s web presence to help their community.

It didn’t take long for them to raise $3500 for the hospital, and that’s when they started another campaign for the USO. They’ve also collected 220+ children’s books for “Book First Chicago”, which helps to create libraries for low-income schools in Chicago. This contribution has ensured that 386 children at Daniel S. Wentworth have access to books this year. The two are also working to get books into the 250 USO locations around the world while also raising money for Radys Children Hospital in San Diego.
