Corinium Study Reveals How Data Science Leaders Are Enabling People, Technology And Processes To Accelerate Their Division.

Industry: Technology

Data Science New York, January 23-24, 2019 | New York City — A new study conducted by Corinium Global Intelligence illustrates how data science leaders are embedding themselves into the heart of their organizations.

North America (PRUnderground) November 6th, 2018

The study examined how the intersection of people, technology and process are accelerating data driven organizations. The results from the Next-Gen Data Science | Interviews with 100 data science leaders survey cites rapid technology development, better business insight and outcomes and customer needs and expectations as the primary drivers of modern data science divisions.

What’s holding data science divisions back?

  • The biggest challenge facing organizations looking to scale their data science divisions is gaining buy-in from business leaders.
  • 52% of data science leaders stated the biggest challenge encountered when hiring new staff is finding talent with adequate statistical knowledge.
  • 47% of data science leaders felt they only had limited support from their data governance teams.

Firms should embed data science teams into the fabric of the organization

Cary Correia, Chief Commercial Data Scientist, GE explains “Having a group of very smart people churning data on the other side of the building doesn’t help connect the data scientist to the issues at hand and this slows the team down and it causes a definite rift. This might explain why 57% of respondents feel that there is a lack of buy-in from business leaders.”

He goes on to suggest; “Having co-located data science specialists sitting within the function working on projects side-by-side with business people enables the team to move in “lock-step” and break down divisional barriers extremely quickly.”

Cary Correia will be giving the opening keynote at Corinium’s Data Science New York Event | January 23-24, 2019.
