Could you be booking hotels in Barcelona for skiing holidays in the next few years? Well as plans for a carbon neutral Snow World have been announced, this could look very likely.
The Catalan capital draws millions of visitors a year for a variety of reasons and is now planning to add another string to its bow, by having an artificial ski slope built. The new attraction is still a bit far off, as the plan is to have the slope built by 2015.
The 39,000 square metre dome will be built by a Dutch company in the southern part of the city and will be carbon neutral. The city’s council have big plans for Barcelona, with major sustainable redevelopment projects for Marina del Prat Vermell industrial estate and the nearby Zona Franca.
Until the Snow World is built and opened, there are plenty of other great reasons to head to the Spanish capital in the mean time. The fantastic football from FC Barcelona, world renowned artists playing at venues including the Palau Sant Jordi, plus the many wonderful attractions like the Sagrada Familia, L’Aquarium de Barcelona and the Barcelona Zoo.
