‘Courage Jubilee’ Will Pay Tribute To Survivors Of Domestic Violence

Free musical tribute is an opportunity for community members to deepen understanding of domestic violence issues and support survivors

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Universal City/North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will gather musicians and choirs from all over Southern California to present Courage Jubilee, a two hour musical tribute to the strength and resilience of those faced with domestic violence in their lives. The event will be held on Sunday, October 21st, from 7 – 9 pm at 11455 Burbank Blvd, North Hollywood, California 91601.
“Our annual events recognizing the victims and survivors of domestic violence matter to me on a personal level. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men aged 18 and older in the United States have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner. Love shouldn’t hurt. It’s important to bring the community together and shine a light on this issue,” explains the chamber’s Executive Director Dorothy Stringer.
“I’ve worked on various projects, but the Domestic Violence Awareness Month tribute is special. This has taught me that even if you can’t take away what happened to someone, you can be a source of comfort. You can be there for them, and you can support groups that serve as a valuable resource in their healing journey,” says volunteer Sheila Estaniel, who first got involved with the chamber when she directed community engagement efforts for a previous employer.
Admission is free, but donations will be taken to support Village Family Service, a non-profit organization in North Hollywood that helps families touched by the scourge of domestic violence.
