Dallas date has been scheduled for the “Art of PMO” workshop led by Rich Butkevic, PMP, CSM.

The Dallas Art of PMO Workshop will take place over the course of three hours and will take participants on a deep dive into developing an effective and results orientated strategy for maturing their organizations Project Management Office (PMO).

Rich Butkevic describes the philosophy that drives The Art of PMO workshop as follows, “While working within a variety of Project Management Offices across diverse industries, I discovered that, far more often than not, the overarching strategy for developing the processes used within the PMO itself was ineffective or even nonexistent.  New processes or changes to existing processed would be selected based on whatever the problem of the day was, or whenever spied an opportunity to provide more detail, or to add another template to the PMO arsenal.  I found it ironic that the very department responsible for instilling discipline throughout the organizations approach to projects frequently had very little discipline in the approach to their own work.  In my view, the very creation of the processes to be used should take place within a process – the ‘process of process’.  I started The Art of PMO workshops to help address this need and foster that mindset in other PMO leaders.  The aim of the PMO isn’t to provide a list of everything that could possibly be needed, or to create a library of templates, or to provide as much detail as possible at all times, or to turn project managers into automatons.  The REAL work of an effective PMO is identifying what can be improved, when the right time is to make those changes, the priority of the changes, and how LITTLE can be done to solve the problem or meet the need in question.  If participants take away only one thing from the workshop, I hope it is that processes should NOT contain as much as possible, but as little as you can get away with.”
