Dancers Got to Dance through the Decades

Industry: Entertainment & Games

Event proceeds benefited Camp SoCal HeARTs.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (PRUnderground) July 14th, 2016

Whether guests wanted to dance the Lindy or show off their breakdancing skills, everyone had a good time at the Dancing through the Decades event held on June 23 at the Carondelet House in Los Angeles. Proceeds of the evening went to support Camp SoCal HeARTs, a program of Camp TLC.

Camp SoCal HeARTs serves children in foster care in the Southern California area. The group’s week-long ARTs Summer Camp nurtures children’s creativity with exposure to the arts, many of which are no longer offered in the public schools. An impressive list of volunteer professionals contributes to the camp curriculum, which includes theatre, dance, singing, guitar, percussion, photography and athletics.

The camp promises many benefits for foster children. Through exposure to arts and a nurturing of creativity, children can identify their self-worth, support their interests and develop personal goals for the future. The children also have the chance to create lifelong friends and memories, as well as a lifelong love of the arts.

Attendees at the event came ready to show off their best moves in their best outfits from the 1920s up through the 1980s and had the chance to dance to the best music from these time periods, compliments of the band RedShoe. Guests also enjoyed complimentary cocktails from MaMa’s Medicine, hors d’oeuvres from Tres LA and coffee from Espresso Obsesso. The fun also included silent and live auctions.

The evening was deemed a success by both attendees and the organizers. Ahmed Nashaat, a local entrepreneur who enjoys attending fundraisers for various charities, was one guest who danced the night away at the event.

“I think even those who don’t know how to dance had fun,” said Mr. Nashaat. “The only thing that made the evening even more enjoyable was knowing that it was held to support such a worthy cause!”

Camp SoCal HeARTs operates solely from donations and fundraisers such as the Dancing through the Decades event. Every dollar raised goes towards helping foster children.

Camp TLC has been serving kids for 6 years and in many different states, with different types of camps. They also run special needs camps and camps for children who are in hospitals and can’t attend a typical camp setting. They also sponsor holiday parties for needy children. The camps are always free for the children to attend.
