Deliver High Availability to Customers with Mako’s Fast Failover Technology

Industry: Technology

Mako’s high-performance SD-WAN allows seamless failover across any combination of broadband networks to keep operations in service.

The Mako VPN Cloud SD-WAN solution from Mako Networks can be configured to provide Fast Failover, a High Availability (HA) feature that enables real-time, automated failover from one broadband network to another to take place without disrupting service delivery. This means critical business systems stay online and do not drop a packet during unexpected network outages. Already known for world-class security features, the seamless performance of Fast Failover sets Mako apart from the competition.

Mako VPN Cloud is designed to link distributed small-site locations to any combination of data centers, head offices, third-party vendors, or remote users with user-definable resiliency over any combination of networks and with complete geographic redundancy. Mako uses its VPN Cloud SD-WAN technology to deliver cheaper, faster, and more resilient connectivity than any other method available today.

What makes Fast Failover so fast? While other solutions may address only one end, Mako VPN Cloud provides redundancy at both ends of a VPN connection – a small-site location and a data center, for example. And Mako appliances have a combination of high-performance hardware and proprietary high-efficiency routing software that results in exceptional failover performance.

Distributed small-site locations can typically rely on Fast Failover alone for redundancy, while data centers may take additional measures, such as additional hardware redundancy to provide local and geographic redundancy. With the easy scalability of the Mako System, enterprises can respond quickly to growing demand and maintain Fast Failover performance at any scale.

Mako 6000-series small-site appliances are designed to operate securely over any Internet connection (cable, DSL, Ethernet, fiber, and cellular), support up to 4 WANs, and automatically use whatever Internet connections are available. This behavior can be configured in a variety of ways from always-on and load-balanced to a ranked failover setup in which only one connection is used at a time.

Mako 7000-series and 8000-series data center VPN Concentrators are designed to terminate thousands of VPN connections simultaneously, can be deployed in a variety of ways for hardware redundancy and geographic redundancy, can incorporate BGP, and can be virtualized using popular cloud services.

Fast Failover makes new service experiences possible, such as the Seamless Voice™ feature of Mako Voice. Pairing Mako VPN Cloud with Mako Voice brings SD-WAN reliability to VoIP, allowing calls to continue even when one network fails or suffers a significant loss of quality. With traditional WAN routing, failover does not occur fast enough to keep a voice call connected, but with Fast Failover, you can unplug a WAN cable while on a call and the call will not be dropped.

In addition to Fast Failover for HA, key benefits of deploying the Mako System include industrial-grade security features for compliance with PCI DSS; the Mako Central Management System (CMS) for cloud-based configuration, reporting, and diagnostic tools; flexibility to suit any networking need for either preserving an existing network or starting a new network; and exceptional value, given Mako’s high quality, affordable pricing, and likely reduced costs.
