Denver Health Nurse Named Colorado Health Care Star

American Sentinel University and the Colorado Hospital Association (CHA) named Jennifer Hudson, RN, at Denver Health’s Eastside Family Health Center’s Pediatric Clinic as a Colorado Health Care Stars Award winner. This award recognizes Hudson as an exceptional health care professional.

Colorado Health Care Stars is a statewide health care professional award recognition program sponsored by American Sentinel University and CHA. The program was launched in February 2015 to acknowledge clinical professionals in Colorado who exceed expectations in the delivery of health care.

Hudson joined Denver Health as part of the new Pediatric Care Management RN Program. The program is designed to exemplify the potential of RNs to impact the health of local populations. In that role, she’s worked tirelessly to improve patient outcomes, decrease costs, and enhance patient experiences.

“Jennifer knows her patients and their families, and identifies needs, strengths, and potential gaps in care,” says Debra Gardner, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Denver Health. “She has been impressive with her ability to clearly communicate with the care team while advocating for the patient and working with the family.”

Gardner says Hudson’s contributions have played a prominent role in decreasing the need for care management interventions in the emergency room and inpatient services among children with special healthcare needs. Hudson has also significantly impacted patient-centered relationships with families that drive the patients back to primary care providers and community resources for appropriate support and care.

As a result, the cost savings achieved by the overall expanded care team, across the organization, exceeds $14 million for the past four years.

“Caring for a child with a serious illness or a life-threatening condition is challenging.
