Dog Park Construction Boom Thanks to Millennials and Empty-Nesters says Construction Reporter

Urban areas are seeing the largest growth in dog parks, for example Albuquerque just opened it's 14th park, yet larger parks in more rural areas are also taking root.

In Albuquerque, a new 4800 square foot dog park at Cedar Apartments to be opened soon is attracting a lot of interest. Hundreds of dog parks have been constructed across the nation over the past 10 years in public and private land.
“A lot of this has to do with the growth in dog ownership,” says Becca Barnett, social media manager with the website BringFido.com. The site provides information on many services for dog owners including dog parks.
Urban areas are attracting the most growth because many people do not have backyards, so a nearby park is very attractive for dogs to get their exercise and energy out.
Demographics impacting the growth include young people, millennials, and baby boomer empty-nesters. New York City, demonstrating the growth in urban parks, has over 100 dog parks.
Larger, almost “rural” parks are also on the rise for example the Elm Creek Reserve Dog Park in Maple Grove, Minnesota, or Seattle’s Magnuson Dog Park, a 9-acre coastal fenced space offering access to Lake Washington.
Most dog parks are much smaller for example the 2.6 acre PetSmart Dog Park in Phoenix.
