Guilford, CT (PRUnderground) October 14th, 2019

Dr. Robert Langdon of The Langdon Center was a proud organizer of the National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) event in Old Saybrook at Saybrook Point, a beautiful town along the Connecticut River. The goal of the event, which took place on Saturday, September 21, 2019, was to educate people of all ages on the environmental and financial benefits of electric vehicles. Registered attendees report that they’ve driven a total of 694,714 electric miles.

During the event, owners of all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles discussed why they love them and how they use their vehicles while commuting daily to places like work or the grocery store and traveling to destinations that are further away.

Event participants gained valuable insight into the difference between traditional gas-powered cars and electric vehicles. They also discovered why electric vehicles are so much more affordable to drive and maintain. In addition, they learned about many of the EV models currently available and how driving a plug-in vehicle supports the environment and public health.

“NDEW was a great way for people to educate themselves about the benefits of electric vehicles and to find out whether owning one is right for them. There was no shortage of information and resources available to them,” says Dr. Robert Langdon.

The Old Saybrook NDEW event featured a Question-and-Answer session in which participants addressed their questions about electric vehicles to EV owners, drivers, and experts. Those who participated were entered in a raffle to win gift certificates to the Fresh Salt Restaurant at the nearby Saybrook Point Inn. They also enjoyed sandwiches from Big Y in Old Saybrook as well as apple cider and fresh donuts from Bishops Orchards of Guilford.

In addition, participants received the chance to test drive plug-in vehicles by automakers like Chevrolet, Toyota, Audi, Honda, Nissan, and BMW. They learned about special savings programs for Connecticut EV drivers including state and federal tax credits they can receive if they purchase or lease electric vehicles.

Dr. Robert Langdon as well as NDEW sponsors such as Nissan LEAF, ClipperCreek, Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, Edison Electric Institute, Enel X, and DTE Energy were thrilled about the event’s success and hope to continue organizing it in the future.
