Dallas plastic surgeon, Dr. Rod J. Rohrich has been honored with the Special Achievement Award by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The award was given to Dr. Rohrich in San Diego at “Plastic Surgery The Meeting 2019”, an international educational conference for plastic surgeons held annually. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional contributions and leadership within plastic surgery.
“I am extremely humbled, yet gratified to be honored with this award,” says Dr. Rohrich, who has held several key leadership roles within plastic surgery throughout his career. He served as President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as Chairman and Distinguished Professor of the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern, and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal and a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine. “You work hard your entire career to become the best plastic surgeon you can, not only for your patients, but also to teach the next generation. It’s good to be recognized for helping to make plastic surgery great, and it shows that giving back matters.”
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons cites several reasons for granting the award, including Dr. Rohrich’s widespread role in organizational leadership, lifelong contributions to plastic surgery training and education, and his substantial body of work as an author of scientific articles and medical texts.
Plastic Surgery Foundation past President Charles Verheyden, M.D., who also serves on the Board of Trustees issuing the Special Achievement Award, credits Dr. Rohrich’s lifelong passion in plastic surgery for helping to make the discipline what it is today. “Probably more than any other plastic surgeon, Dr. Rohrich helped to shape the specialty over his practice career.”
Dr. Rohrich’s private practice, based out of Dallas at the renowned Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute, has a clinical focus on plastic surgery of the face and nose. Dr. Rohrich is widely considered to be one of the top rhinoplasty surgeons in the world today, and much of his writing and presentations focus on rhinoplasty, and revision rhinoplasty, that is, correcting previously performed rhinoplasty that have had poor outcomes. Dr. Rohrich is also the author of the authoritative textbooks on the subject, “Dallas Rhinoplasty: Nasal Surgery by the Masters” which is currently published in six languages and has repeatedly sold out.
“That’s what I mean by giving back,” explains Dr. Rohrich. “Today our great specialty is so big that you can become an expert in one or two focused areas, but you have to live it, dream it, and then do it.”
