E.Q.U.I.P. Enterprises Inc. (EEI), a disabilities employment network that provides disabled individuals and veterans with access to jobs like janitorial and facilities maintenance positions, this week announced in an effort to thank their hard working staff during the COVID-19 requirements, they are providing hourly increases and meal deliveries.

EEI provides access to custodial services, ground maintenance, facility maintenance, and IT services, all of which are still needed and essential during a pandemic. As the EEI employees continue to pour their hearts and souls into the work, risking exposure to COVID-19, EEI wanted to thank them for their service.

“Janitors often fly under the radar in regards to the hard work and exposure they put into their jobs,” said Karina Hernandez, Founder and Owner of EEI. “As Time Magazine stated this week, ‘no one mentions the people who clean it up or what it’s like to be a cleaning professional during a coronavirus outbreak.’ We want to reward these people right now.”

Working under tense conditions with extra protective equipment and special attention to detail in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, the janitorial profession has taken on a whole new meaning today. As some cleaners referenced in this Time article, it can even be somewhat terrifying right now.

Understanding the risk and the extra effort that is being put forth by their program participants, EEI is not only including an hourly pay increase for all workers, but they are also delivering hot meals out in the field so their workers are treated with care and respect.

“At the very least, we can provide these hard working people with an increase in pay and meals to help them keep their energy reserves up,” said Hernandez. “We are all in this together, and as we work to beat this silent enemy, it’s the janitors and cleaners on the front line protecting the essential workers at state faciltiies. Together, we are stronger.”

Considering that people with disabilities experience unemployment at a rate nearly four-times the general population, EEI was founded to provide a future to people who deserve it.

Today, EEI is a nonprofit organization that provides gainful employment opportunities to persons with disabilities under the Works Wonders Program in Texas.
