This year, LORE Media & Arts presents and the City of Scottsdale hosts  a stunning new collection of mural art panels painted by top tier artists from the newly expanded Arizona Collective, co-curated by Lucretia Torva. The panels will pay homage to the Aztec Deity of Death, Mictlantechutli, and the Mesoamerican spiritual symbol of the hummingbird.

They will accompany new additions to LORE’s large scale sculptured Grand Skull collection which will also be on display. The new skulls were painted by renowned muralist Lalo Cota and the father-and-son team Such and Champ Styles.

Both Brown and 1st streets will be closed and converted to a giant Scottsdale Dia de Los Muertos wonderland. Attendees are encouraged to wear Day of the Dead (Calaca) makeup and/or attire to become part of the festivities.

Scottsdale dia de Los Muertos features larger than life fine art sculptures, installations, altars, mural paintings, family activities, music, storytelling, live painting, dance, food and community altars designed by local families, OLPH Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church members and the Scottsdale Boys and Girls Club.

A stage has been added, where a vibrant array of Dia de Los Muertos performances will be seen and heard throughout the day. The world renowned Grandeza Mexicana troupe will perform Folklorico dance. Live Mariachis and traditional Aztec dancers will dazzle and amaze. Musical ensemble Eternal Mercy will perform. Educator and theatre artist Olivia Treviño will give engaging historical lectures and theatrical performances of Aztec myths accompanied by the Mesoamerican instrumentation of Juan Carlos Morales.

The event will culminate in a community procession led by local art leaders and an energetic performance of traditional Mexican Chileno and Aztec dancing.
