FIG Celebrates Savage Women

FIG Strategy & Consulting founder TaChelle Lawson wants to give praise to savage women in business. Lawson says, “I’m over all of these women’s organizations and groups that claim to support women when in reality they support women that conform to certain ideas and behaviors.” 

For Lawson, to be a savage means to honest, confident, and most importantly, fearlessly walk in truth. A savage will brazenly and unapologetically call any brand or representative to the carpet that publicly claims equality and inclusion as part of their organization’s culture while practicing the complete opposite once the cameras are off. 

Controversial as it seems for a Black woman to intentionally describes herself in terms often used to devalue and dehumanize Black women around the world, Lawson’s “savage” philosophy stems from watching women in the business world’s virtue signaling responses by announcing powerful women that are heavy on style, yet short on substance.

Ms. Lawson declared, “…If you were one of those agencies or organizations that actively recruit women to gain more corporate dollars or support, yet does not make women of all ages, ethnicities, educational background and attitudes feel welcome, despite what your mission statement says ― you are no friend to anyone, particularly women and FIG will call you on [it].”

She continued, “But the women that will stand alone in their truth if they must, are comfortable in their skin and won’t betray themselves by trying to fit into a group that can’t see how incredible they are. Those women are savages. Those women, I salute. Those women, I will hi-five and hell-yeah every time.” 

If you are one of those women that go out of her way to dim another woman’s light under the disguise of support or constructive criticism, your day’s manipulation and fake support are over; you and your behavior will be called out. ” If you lead one of these organizations and claims your mission is to help women in business grow and become successful, yet that translates into the entire membership looking and sounding the same, lack of diversity and cliquey groups, please understand, this women’s month, FIG will not be turning a blind eye. You will be put on blast.

For Lawson, alignment of values between company and client has always served as FIG’s cornerstone. However, she decided it was crucial to “take a deep look into the organizations we trust and give support to and acknowledge some simply don’t have our back. Despite what they claim.” That meant going a step beyond and openly calling out these phonies whose public stances and professional practices lacked cohesion and accountability.

Ms. Lawson noted that companies and leaders alike have a responsibility to deliver on their values. Anything short of that amounts to little more than PR optics designed to misdirect and manipulate.

And as far as Lawson’s concerned, these groups have been allowed to get away with pushing style over substance for far too long. Now it’s time for a more “savage” approach. 

Lawson ends with, “All the savage women, please stand up. There’s a lot of work to do.”
