Founder of Laser Spa Group, a ThreeBestRated® award-winning Med Spa in Hamilton, explains the reasons to get laser treatment in winter

The beauty industry has seen tremendous growth in the past decade. And laser treatments, in particular, have become really popular among people who want to keep their skin looking young and healthy. 

But have you ever wondered what is the best time of the year to start a laser treatment?

ThreeBestRated® reached out to an expert, Bozana Skojo, to get the answer. Bozana Skojo is the founder and Clinical Educator of Laser Spa Group, a 2021 ThreeBestRated® Award-winning Med Spa in Hamilton. Bozana says the answer is winter.

Why is winter the best time to get laser treatments?

“Skin resurfacing procedures are amazing for improving textural irregularities in the skin such as acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, stretch marks, sun damage, rough texture, and so much more. Typically multiple sessions are needed with non-ablative skin resurfacing lasers, so starting early in the winter months is key to ensure your 3-5 sessions are completed by summer,” she explains.

“In the summer, we are able to enjoy a sun-kissed tan. However, tanned skin does not respond to lasers well because the lasers target pigmented areas,” she says. “The laser does not differentiate the colour of your skin vs the colour of your tan. If you are tanned, the laser will focus on the superficial colour of your epidermis and can cause hypo and hyperpigmentation on your skin,” she further explains.

Essentially, the laser will pull off the tan and can cause burns and can also cause long-term effects. “While 95% of our lasers and equipment can treat allnaturally pigmented skin colours (from pale white to black skin), tanned skin does not respond the same as naturally dark skin. Hence why staying out of the sun is extremely important both pre and post-laser. So, the less sun exposure, the better efficacy you will have during your treatments,” she explains.

But all this success didn’t come to her in one day. “I bought my first laser 18 years ago and went through numeroussetbacks in those early years. It took many years to pay my first laser off, and everyone thought I was crazy to buy one. I moved back in with my parents to help with finances and had so many challenges that really shaped me into who I am as a business owner and boss to my staff,” she says.

She even wrote a book titled “Don’t Get Mad, Get Successful” to help inspire other entrepreneurs that may go through some setbacks and challenges.

Bozana has also won the Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala in 2017. It was even more special because she received the award just a day before her wedding.

“The Croatian Chamber of Commerce has several different categories of achievement but winning the Entrepreneur of the Year was definitely a highlight for me and gave me a great feeling of accomplishment and success. It is hard to define what success means, I think to many it might mean financial stability, but I believe there are small successes towards that financial independence and can be impactful moments like winning an award, with your friends and family present to round out the feeling of success,” she says proudly.
