Honesty and Integrity Are the Drivers of Success for This Indiana Roofing Company

Throughout his life, Tom Sovich has always been drawn to the world of construction. From building tree forts as a child to working in the masonry industry with his uncles, he’d always known that he wanted to help people, especially those dealing with storm damage to their homes. It was that fascination that eventually led him to work on the distribution side of roofing. In that role, he became friends with his colleague, Josh Mullins, who also grew up intrigued with the industry.

Josh explains, “I’ve always had an interest in the construction industry. My dad worked in decorative concrete for over 50 years and I worked with him on several projects. The sense of appreciation and satisfaction that most homeowners had was very inspiring.”

While working together, Tom and Josh noticed a demand for high-quality roofers in Indianapolis. They learned that the industry as a whole had a reputation for being untrustworthy, especially as Indiana doesn’t require permitting or testing for roofing projects. It was then that they decided to change the reputation of the industry by starting OpenBox Roofing together.

“It was a big risk to start our own company and frankly, I was scared. But, my wife, Dana has been absolutely nothing but supportive and she’s the one who really encouraged us to take the leap,” Josh goes on to say.

Together, Tom and Josh began to shift the narrative of the roofing industry with their mission to provide a personalized roofing experience for every customer, operating with quality, integrity, and honesty, no matter how big or small the job. Within the first year of business, they could tell that they were building something special.

“That first year, there was a huge storm in Indianapolis and business really started taking off for us. Immediately, we were getting feedback from our customers that they were grateful we were there to advocate for them and work to make things right, no matter what. When our customers tell us that they can trust our team, we know we’re doing our job,” explains Tom.

Today, Tom and Josh have grown their staff and are now servicing multi-family apartment complexes in addition to residential houses. “My children, Hadley, Brandt, and Graham, are 100% my inspiration. They think it’s the coolest thing that we own a company and they love the truck wraps. The support we get from our families truly makes this all possible,” says Josh.

Even as the company evolves, one thing will never change, however: the commitment to earning customers’ trust by operating with honesty and integrity every step of the way.
