Global Philanthropist and rainmaker Jeremy Alters was a patron for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund “Distinguished Young Leader” Awards. The event recognized five honorees in the Miami area and raised over fifty thousand dollars to support higher education.

Jeremy Alters built his reputation as one of the best trial attorneys in the country, previously representing individuals and families who had been devastated in the areas of product liability and medical malpractice. Alters has been a prominent figure in a number of organizations and events in the Miami area, including serving as one of then-Senator Obama’s first finance committee members in late 2006 through both Presidential victories. Most recently Alters has been making headlines as the CEO of Green Alpha, a leading cannabis venture lab and business accelerator. Alters’ local philanthropy has included gifts to several educational causes including Nova Southeastern University where he received the President’s Award for Excellence in Community Service after a gift of $1 million to the university.

The Distinguished Young Leader Awards (DYL) is part of a nationwide effort to engage the community, support member-schools and programs, and to raise funds to support the nearly 300,000 students attending public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), medical and law schools. The award recipients are local individuals under 45 years old who are deserving of community recognition for their efforts in the South Florida area, as well as who exemplify Thurgood Marshall’s passion for justice and civil rights and serving as significant role models to the next generation.

“I have always been an advocate for helping those who need their voice to be heard,” said Alters. “One of the most powerful ways to do that is to assist with someone’s education. The Thurgood Marshall College Fund helps students with a clear intention and the motivation to succeed and acquire a high-quality college education and I’m proud to support it.”
