Jon Bunge: Chicago Bulls Predicted Last Place

There has been talk that the Chicago Bulls — the NBA team that once stole the basketball court spotlight season after season — will actually come in last place in the Eastern Conference this year. But in the eyes of prominent sport blogger Jon Bunge of Chicago, last place may actually be the best place.

ESPN recently forecasted that the Chicago Bulls would have a tough season with only 26 wins. This is relatively low for an NBA team that has made it into the playoffs during eight of the most recent nine seasons. It is also disgraceful for the team that drove Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan to a whopping six NBA championships coupled with global distinction.

However, according to Bunge, if the Chicago Bulls are in last place, this may put the team in the best position to draft Marvin Bagley III or Michael Porter Jr. in the summer of 2018. In light of this, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad for the team to simply tank the season, or lose as many games as it can — whatever it takes to claim the most beneficial lottery position.

The Bulls could easily lose quite a few games this season, as it is not anticipated that Dwayne Wade will stick around long with the organization. He might stay for a season during the tank and then take advantage of a buyout agreement during the coming months to play for another team.

Robin Lopez is currently one of the Bulls’ most respected players. However, whether he is actually a force who can change the game is up for debate, as he averages only 10 points per game. The remainder of the team’s roster has much to be desired as well, so according to Bunge, why not go ahead and lose on purpose? Losing this season might actually make the Bulls the real winner in the end come the 2018 draft.
