Levi Metheny, a former collegiate athlete supports the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). The foundation provides support and opportunities to people with physical challenges, to promote an active fitness lifestyle through competitive athletics. CAF believes that active participation in sports can boost one’s self-esteem and quality of life, and develops a sense of independence.

“I am delighted to support CAF in their mission to provide those with physical challenges, an opportunity to be active and engaged in all kinds of sports,” says Levi Metheny, a former linebacker at the University of Albany football team. “I believe in the organization’s movement to change societal perceptions of athletes with physical challenges and have them be recognized and respected as any other athlete.”

The Challenged Athletes Foundation started in 1994 in an effort to help an exceptional athlete, Jim MacLaren after he lost his leg in a motorcycle accident. MacLaren pioneered the way for amputees to be recognized in athletics, achieving a feat that was thought to be impossible for someone with physical challenges.

The legacy of MacLaren continues today as CAF supports athletes with physical challenges at every level; from competitive sports like the Paralympics to recreational youth programs to encourage challenged athletes to live an active and full life at an early age.

Levi Metheny attended the University at Albany where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management, was a three-year starter, and was named FCS Pre-Season All-American. He then went on to continue his education and received an MBA from Murray State University while completing his last season of football.

Mr. Metheny also won the CAA All-Conference award and participated in volunteer initiatives through the school. When he was not on the field as a linebacker, he was supporting the team’s volunteer initiatives which included reading to elementary students and serving in local food pantries and soup kitchens.
