Yvonne Martin, a resident of Littleton, has founded Mia’s Munchies, which produces handmade organic CBD dog treats for canines across the country.  Along with sourcing, baking, and selling the treats, Martin is also a tutor with Sylvan In-Home, where she provides tutoring services to K – 8th grade students who live in Middlesex County.

“CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, doesn’t get people or animals high:  it’s a compound in hemp and marijuana plants that relieves physical discomfort, reduces tension, and aids sleep,” says Martin.  “I created Mia’s Munchies to help my dog Mia with separation anxiety, agitation around other dogs, panic attacks during thunderstorms, and joint pain.  She loves how they taste, and I love how they keep her calm and happy.”

A native of Ayer, Martin graduated from St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School in Fitchburg in 2004.  She graduated from Fitchburg State University with a B.S. in Communications Media (focus in Photography and a minor in Leadership) in May of 2008.  In 2011, Martin moved to Houston, where she taught all subjects at KIPP PEACE Elementary School (pre-K and first grade) and then Eliot Elementary School (first and second grade).  In 2018, Martin moved to Littleton and began developing Mia’s Munchies recipes.

“One of my Mia’s Munchies customers told me that her dog has a large tumor, and that the cookies have helped the dog to be more physically comfortable,” says Martin, who uses a recipe that’s comprised of 100% organic CBD extract, oatmeal, water, cinnamon, coconut oil, bananas, and locally sourced honey.  “Another customer’s dog has been nervous since two other dogs were introduced into her family, and the cookies have helped her jumpy pup to chill out and snuggle.”

Along with building her CBD dog treat business, Martin recently joined the newly launched Sylvan In-Home, which provides personalized one-on-one instruction for students in elementary school through high school.  Martin teaches math, language arts, and organizational/homework/note-taking skills at the homes of her students.

“I use information about the academic challenges of the children to come up with creative and effective ways to help them excel,” says Martin.  “Because we’re working in their homes, they’re able to relax and maximize their learning.  Seeing their confidence and their skills grow is very rewarding and fulfilling for me.  They’ve become a part of my ‘family’ – I see them multiple times each week and I’m invested in their success.”

In addition to developing her tutoring practice, Martin also has plans to ramp up Mia’s Munchies.

“I’m working on a new organic grain-free CBD treat recipe that will be helpful for dogs who have grain sensitivity,” says Martin.  “Once I know that it’s safe, effective, and delicious, I’ll make it available to pet parents whose pups would love it and benefit from it.”
