Monterey Park, CA (PRUnderground) October 19th, 2016

On Sunday October 30th from 3-9pm the Los Angeles Astronomical Society will be hosting the first annual Safe Place For Space Science Night at the Garvey Ranch Observatory in Monterey Park, CA.

This FREE event is open to people of all ages including those with special needs. Children need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

“I wanted to create an opportunity for EVERYONE to access astronomy. All too often individuals with special needs don’t get to experience the excitement and wonder of looking though a telescope or participating in other activities because the facility can’t accommodate the individual or the family has concerns about how the public will respond to those who are differently-abled,” said Liam Kennedy, CEO of ISS-Above and founder of Safe Space For Place.

Activities include Kids Halloween Costume Parade – Face Painting – Healthy Treats (Candy too!) – International Space Station Display – Lego Project Activities – Rocket Launching – Tesla Coil Display – Observing the Sun / Planets via numerous Telescopes (some wheelchair accessible).

“We’re looking forward to hosting this event and offering a lot of fun activities and a number of telescopes to give everyone a chance to gaze at the wonders of space. Inclusiveness is our primary goal and the more and varied the attendance, the better for everyone. I’m expecting this to be an annual event,” said Geovanne Somoza, President of LAAS.

Safe Place for Space SCIENCE NIGHT is sponsored by: The Los Angeles Astronomical Society (LAAS), The Planetary Society, Celestron Telescopes, Play Well TEKnologies, Columbia Memorial Space Center, ISS-Above and Safe Place For Space.
