On April 15th, the Organization’s Annual Event Will Raise Awareness about Testicular Cancer, the Most Common Cancer Affecting Young Men, and Teach the Benefits of Regular Self-Examinations

New York, NY (PRUnderground) April 10th, 2019

In conjunction with National Testicular Cancer Awareness Month (April), The Center for Advocacy for Cancer of the Testes International (CACTI.org) announced today its holding the second annual “Balls to the Walls” event on Monday, April 15th  outside the Bowling Green subway stop, at Broadway and Whitehall Street in Lower Manhattan (home of the Charging Bull). The event, which runs from noon until 2 pm, is designed to educate New Yorkers about testicular cancer, its warning signs and effective methods for early detection.

“While testicular cancer is the most common cancer found in young men, ages 18-35, it’s also highly curable when detected early,” said Scott Petinga, a testicular cancer survivor and founder of CACTI.org. “Our annual ‘Balls to the Walls’ event helps raise awareness about this little-discussed disease, with hopes that one day men will check themselves for testicular cancer as regularly as their female counterparts check their breasts for lumps.”

To drive the message home in a fun and tasty way, The Meatball Shop, which has half a dozen restaurant locations in Manhattan, will be on hand serving some of their delicious “balls,” while Dr. Christopher Kelly, a urologist and assistant professor at New York University’s Langone Medical Center, will be staffing a pop-up medical booth, handing out educational flyers, answering questions about testicular cancer, and giving tips on how to perform proper self-examinations.

“As a healthcare community, in many ways we have failed to educate young men adequately about this disease,” says Dr. Christopher Kelly. “Events like this one help disseminate the information they need to know about the signs and symptoms of the disease, and how easy it is to seek a professional evaluation if they suspect something is not right.”

“Balls to the Walls” will be held on Monday, April 15th from noon to 2 pm on the plaza outside the Bowling Green subway station in Lower Manhattan at Broadway and Whitehall Street. Men, and their significant others, are urged to stop by, take an educational flyer, enjoy a fresh meatball from The Meatball Shop and learn from a renowned urologist how to check themselves for testicular cancer.
