MetiStream Announces Addition of Two New Advisory Board Members

Industry: Technology

The Industry Experts Will Help Advance the Company’s Innovative Healthcare Analytics Solutions

McLean, VA, (PRUnderground) May 25th, 2017

MetiStream Incorporated, a data and analytics solutions provider specializing in healthcare and big data solutions announced the addition of two new advisory board members, Ted Malaska and Dr. Vince Obias. The two industry veterans join an advisory and executive team poised to accelerate the growth and development of Ember, MetiStream’s healthcare analytics solution.

Ted Malaska will join MetiStream’s Advisory Board as a Technical Advisor.  Ted brings with him deep industry expertise in the area of big data, open source technologies such as Hadoop,  Apache Spark and advanced analytics.  Ted is currently the Technical Group Architect at Blizzard Entertainment.  He is the Co-author of O’Reilly Media’s Hadoop Application Architectures and a recognized industry leader in designing complex data management and analytics solutions in the healthcare and data intensive industries. Prior to joining Blizzard, Ted was a Principal Architect at Cloudera Inc., a leader in the Hadoop and big data arena.

“Ted is a true technology visionary and we are so excited to have him as our Technical Advisor.  With Ted’s expertise and leadership in big data, architecture, and cross-industry expertise in areas of healthcare, financial services and other domains he will help to accelerate our product development initiatives and overall growth in the healthcare and big data industry,” replied Chiny Driscoll, MetiStream’s Founder and CEO.

“In my career, I’ve been lucky to help a broad variety of customers implement big data solutions; helping them realize the value of and the opportunities for their data.  I’ve seen it all – the good, the bad, and the ugly – literally hundreds of customer use cases.  And what I see consistently is data everywhere but nowhere and missed opportunities for better analytics.  This is why I’m so excited to be part of MetiStream and the work they are doing with Ember and their focus in healthcare.  I think their vision to inject the FHIR healthcare standard as the backbone to a traditional big data pipeline and serve as an end-to-end delivery mechanism for machine learning and analytics is the way to go,” said Ted Malaska

Dr. Vince Obias (MD, MS, FACS, FACRS) joins MetiStream’s Board of Advisors as a healthcare advisor.  Dr. Obias is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at George Washington University and Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery. His specialty includes robotics and his passion has always been around technology innovation in healthcare.  Notably, he was the first surgeon in the Washington, DC area to apply robotics towards colorectal diseases. Dr. Obias has written articles on a variety of topics including robotics surgery and cancer, post-operative recovery, trauma-critical care, and transplant surgery.

“Dr. Obias brings great insight into the healthcare and machine generated healthcare data given his deep experience in robotics.  His knowledge of healthcare and passion for healthcare innovation, patient engagement and care will allow us to develop better patient and clinical-centric analytics and solutions,” stated Donna Fernandez, COO of MetiStream.

“When robotic surgery was just in its infancy, I pushed to get involved and saw it as an opportunity to marry my love for medicine and technology.  While many physicians were skeptical of robots in our operating rooms, I was hopeful and excited.  As an Advisor for MetiStream, I feel that same sense of excitement and opportunity to leverage big data and analytics to transform patient engagement and care. I’m excited to work with such a forward-thinking company. I feel the work that MetiStream is doing in healthcare can revolutionize the medical field and help my patients,” said Vince Obias, MD.
