Gathering to explore effective policies and programs to support entrepreneurs in Mexico and around the world

Washington, DC (PRUnderground) November 24th, 2014

Next November during the Global Entrepreneurship Week, Mexico City will host a global gathering of startup champions, researchers, policymakers and others working to advance entrepreneurial growth in countries around the world. The announcement was made from the stage of the 2014 Startup Nations Summit in Seoul, Korea.

The Ministry of the Economy of Mexico and the National Entrepreneurship Institute (INADEM) submitted the successful bid and will co-host the summit along with the Global Entrepreneurship Network.

In a message previously sent, Mr. Enrique Jacob Rocha, president of the National Entrepreneurship Institute, expressed his gratitude to the Global Entrepreneurship Network for the selection of Mexico as host nation of the Startup Nations Summit 2015. He emphasized: “The talent of Mexicans, together with the Federal Government’s commitment with innovation and efforts in consolidating an entrepreneurial environment, turn Mexico into an ideal ecosystem for high-impact ventures.”

Furthermore, he invited all Mexicans to take part in this important event, reaffirming the nation’s interest in supporting entrepreneurs as agents of social and economic change.

The Startup Nations Summit gathers a network of startup community leaders and policymakers to help enable high impact entrepreneurship in nations across the globe, especially through the identification of policy levers and smart public sector driven programs.

Jonathan Ortmans, president of the Global Entrepreneurship Network, met with the leadership of INADEM over the past several months to discuss plans to host the summit and to strengthen the national and local entrepreneurial ecosystems throughout Mexico.

“The government of Mexico has demonstrated a keen grasp on the importance of entrepreneurs to a country’s economy and have taken decisive steps to institutionalize that support,” said Ortmans. “Holding the Startup Nations Summit in Mexico City will bring additional ideas on policies and programs to help entrepreneurs start and scale new firms—while highlighting the rapid expansion of its startup ecosystem.”

The 2015 summit will serve as one of the highlights of Global Entrepreneurship Week, celebrated in 150 countries by millions of participants through 25,000 events and competitions.

Mexico is the first Latin-American country to host the Startup Nations Summit. Previously, the summit has been held in Ottawa, Canada; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Seoul, Korea.
