Michelle L Marquez Sowing Financial Literacy With LAC Employees

Featured as a three part series, LAFACE (Los Angeles Filipino American City Employees) hosted and inaugurated its Program’s first workshop on June 15, 2019 with ebullient Michelle Marquez, a Raymond James Financial Advisor based in nearby Pasadena.  SIPA (Search to Involve Pilipino Americans) organized the event and strategically selected their featured speaker.  Meeting with the LAC employees on two comfort levels, on their work location in LA’s City Hall, and in identifying from the same ethnic background, Michelle was exceptionally well suited to speak on the topic of Financial Literacy to a majority Filipino audience.  She introduced the basics of financial literacy, money management, balancing debt with credit, tax planning and on retirement preparation.  Savoring the opportunity to give back to the community and instilling a difference in her listeners’ financial futures, Michelle connected with the audience by sharing her own personal story, how she arrived at her current profession, and the key satisfactions she finds especially rewarding about her job.   In layman’s terms, she described and explained what she does for families on a daily basis to plan for their expenses and goals.  The presentation generated inquiries, the listeners presented their personal financial scenarios, and Michelle wrapped it up with a question and answer session.  Event photographs were posted on LAFACE and SIPA websites and information about subsequent workshops are posted on their websites as well.

To give her listeners tangible tools to inculcate the objectives of the workshop, Michelle provided each attendee with two books on the subject to read at their own pace and challenged them to reach a higher level of financial literacy.
