Movement Reinvests Nearly $1 Million into Rockville, MD Location

Movement, the largest nationwide community of indoor climbing gyms, is reinvesting nearly $1 million into Movement Rockville. Renovations are slated to be complete by Winter 2023/2024 and will include the addition of a climbing training zone with the best-in-class equipment, an expanded fitness area, upgraded locker rooms and yoga room, new murals and photography by local artists, and a large purchase of new holds and volumes.

Rockville climbers looking to develop their climbing technique will have endless opportunities to hone their skills with the new climbing training zone, which will be home to two adjustable training boards: a 12×12 Tension Board 2 Mirror and a 12×12 Kilter Board Spray, as well as a hangboard rig.

The fitness area expansion will provide 26% more space for members and guests to train with 470 sq ft. of new and upgraded cardio and strength equipment. Additions will include a new treadmill, StairMaster, and squat rack.

Modernized men’s and women’s locker rooms will feature new fixturing and finishes throughout, including sinks, countertops, tiling, vanities, a new foot wash basin in the men’s locker room, and more.

The upgraded yoga and group fitness room, now complete, includes color-changing lighting and new flooring, paint, and storage. Movement Rockville is also expanding their class offerings, including a new Sunday fitness class and three new yoga classes.

The Party Room, a section of roped terrain on the left side of the gym, is also undergoing an upgrade; with a large purchase of new fiberglass holds and volumes, the gym is transforming this space into a multi-purpose area with the needs of the community in mind. New modular seating will also expand community use of the zone.

Throughout the gym, upgraded storage, artwork, paint, and lighting will be added, including large-scale photography of member-favorite crags and new murals by local artists Helena Wu and Vy Yen Do. Renovations are slated to be complete by Winter 2023/24.
