Anyone experiencing a medical emergency in the Hurricane Valley Utah or surrounding area no longer a needs to drive all the way to St. George for care. The Intermountain Hurricane Emergency Services facility offers the same high quality 24-hour medical care people are used to receiving in the Intermountain St. George Regional Hospital emergency department, but now it’s even closer to home.

“This has been such a positive addition to medical services available in the Hurricane area,” said Jared Stevens, clinical operations director for emergency, trauma and pediatrics at St. George Regional Hospital. “The feedback we’ve received from patients since the opening of the facility has been overwhelmingly positive.”

People love how beautiful, clean and new the facility itself is, but even more so, they are grateful for how quickly they are able to see a provider and be treated.

“We’re seeing about 25 to 30 emergency patients per day in Hurricane, which has really helped to decrease the number of people waiting to be seen in our St. George emergency department,” Stevens said. “Since we typically see 180 to 200 patients in St. George, it’s a significant percentage difference.”

Stevens said they anticipate the number of patients seen in Hurricane to continue to grow as word spreads that Hurricane Emergency Services is open 24-hours and can treat the same kinds of emergencies as the St. George emergency department.

“It will take some time for people to become familiar with this great resource,” Stevens said. “This is a full-service emergency facility.”

In addition, this new facility offers outpatient imaging services, which means anyone needing x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds and more no longer have to drive to St. George.

One of the elements that makes this new service so effective for the Hurricane Valley, is the relationship Intermountain Health has with Hurricane Valley Fire District, which offers the ambulance, fire and other emergency services if a patient is in need of transport to the hospital.

“They have been wonderful to work with,” Stevens said. “We are so fortunate to be on the same page. We’ve done some helpful collaborative trainings and things to solidify this partnership.”

If a transport from Hurricane Emergency Services to the hospital is necessary, it is done at no cost to the patient. Instead, Intermountain Health absorbs the transportation cost to bring someone from the Hurricane Emergency Services department to the main hospital campus.

“We are just so excited to be of service in this part of the county and offer high quality medical care 24-7 in their own backyard,” Stevens said.

Hurricane Emergency Services is located at 127 N. 2260 West, Hurricane.
