About

When Mike E James initially stepped out as a singer-songwriter in his teens, he was the youngest out gay guy to release a CD (Sociocosmetology). Today, Mike is still a trailblazer in the industry as he raises his voice to show younger LGBTQ+ audiences that there’s variety in gay culture and entertainment. After cutting ties with his former manager and losing his parents, the Connecticut musician returns to extend words of wisdom and a safe place for younger audiences. Mike has scored many fans and multiple #1 hits with his soulful, edgy sound. Early on, Mike garnered extensive support on college radio and local markets for his Matthew Shepard tribute “Scarecrow” and song “Take Me Whole.” He also appeared on the Oasis Magazine cover and received the International Bear Horizon Music award for his album Finding in 2007. With headline performances at many gay pride events and nightclubs, Mike shed his “boy-next-door” image to embrace his true identity. Though he experienced bullying for being the only openly gay male at public school, his vulnerability has attracted and connected him to audiences worldwide. In 2011, he appeared on a televised taping of Good Morning America for the “’80s themed” episode to pay homage to one of his influences, Tiffany, and showcase his George Michael-esque vocal range. But, he also has been able to unleash his Melissa Etheridge singer-songwriter/rocker side as host of a local drive-time rock radio show that produces events and commercials that showcase his hometown to a larger audience. Mike’s music remains relevant to the modern climate with thousands of streams and downloads. His bravery and personal stories allow space for others to express themselves authentically. With a career spanning decades, Mike’s journey comes full circle with his self-titled album on the horizon.
