Exceptional Instructor Training in Indonesia
Lombok, Indonesia (PRUnderground) January 29th, 2026
Oceans 5 Gili Air has announced the schedule for nine SSI Instructor Training Courses (ITCs) to be conducted throughout 2026 on Gili Air, one of the three Gili Islands off the coast of Lombok, Indonesia. These programs are designed for certified dive professionals who meet SSI’s prerequisites and are preparing to qualify as SSI Open Water Instructors.
Each ITC follows a structured format that combines academic sessions, confined water training, and open water teaching workshops. The program is designed to develop candidates’ instructional techniques, safety management, and ability to conduct SSI recreational diving courses according to agency standards. Training is followed by a two-day Instructor Evaluation (IE), during which candidates are assessed by an independent SSI examiner.
At Oceans 5 Gili Air, the ITC is scheduled as a 16-day training program, with the evaluation taking place immediately after the course. This structure allows candidates to complete both the training and evaluation in one continuous stay on the island.

Training Environment and Facilities
Oceans 5 Gili Air operates as an SSI Instructor Training Center and conducts training using on-site facilities, including training pools, classrooms, and direct access to local dive sites around the Gili Islands. Confined water sessions are typically held in purpose-built training pools, while open water training takes place at nearby reef sites used regularly for recreational and training dives.
The surrounding dive environment includes shallow reefs, sloping coral gardens, and moderate-depth sites that are commonly used for entry-level and professional-level training. Boat dives and shore-accessible sites are both available, allowing flexibility in course scheduling.
Intended Participants
The SSI ITC is intended for candidates who already hold a professional-level certification such as Divemaster or equivalent and who meet SSI’s experience and medical requirements. Candidates are expected to arrive with prior experience assisting on courses and conducting guided dives, as the ITC focuses on teaching methodology rather than basic dive skills.
Upon successful completion of both the ITC and the Instructor Evaluation, candidates qualify as SSI Open Water Instructors and may begin teaching SSI programs within the scope of their certification.
